Rationale for WORK EXPERIENCE 15, 25 and 35


        The program consists of three courses, Work Experience 15, 25 and 35.  Students may obtain between 3 to 10 high school credits in each of these courses. (25 hours of Work Experience equals one credit).  Career Transitions (CTR 1010) is a prerequisite module for Work Experience.
        A student can potentially gain 30 credits if they receive 10 credits in each of the three courses.  Alberta Ed will recognize up to 15 credits towards a high school diploma.

Work Experience courses CAN be used towards the Rutherford Scholarships.

Why would a student want to participate in work experience?
1.   Discover the relationship between education and job success.
2.   Make the adjustment to the work world WHILE STILL IN SCHOOL.
3.   Great to show on high school transcripts and for scholarship applications and leadership awards.
4.   A safety net -one more 30 level course.
5.   Learn useful skills on real jobs and under actual working conditions.
6.   Develop the necessary attitudes for successful job performance.
7.   Develop good work habits.
8.   Develop their personality and poise.
9.   Learn to assume responsibility.
10.  Learn to get along with fellow workers and employers.
11.  Be aware of the relationship between production and wages.
12.  Learn about business through participation.
13.  Explore worthwhile jobs and careers.
14.  Obtain employer references.


What does a student have to do to get into the Work Experience program?
1.  The student gets two signatures, one from parent and the other from the employer.  

2.  When you return the forms with the 2 signatures we spend some time together filling out other forms.

3.  The students keeps track of their work hours and bring them to me approximately every two weeks.
